The Mid-Level CAD Technician is responsible for independently developing and maintaining accurate 2D and 3D CAD documentation for aerospace components, assemblies, and tooling. This role ensures design intent is clearly captured and communicated for manufacturing and inspection, working closely with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to support development and production programs.
Key Responsibilities:
Create detailed 3D models and production-ready 2D drawings for aerospace parts and mechanical assemblies
Apply GD&T and aerospace drafting standards (e.g., ASME Y14.5, Y14.41) to ensure accurate and compliant documentation
Collaborate with mechanical engineers and designers to resolve design questions and interpret requirements
Maintain drawing packages, BOMs, and revision control through PLM or PDM systems (e.g., Teamcenter, Windchill, SolidWorks PDM)
Support engineering change orders (ECOs), redlines, and drawing updates across lifecycle phases
Conduct tolerance stack-up analyses and verify dimensional compatibility across mating parts
Prepare detailed views, exploded diagrams, and section cuts to aid in manufacturing and inspection
Assist with 3D printing or prototyping efforts, including model preparation and format conversion
Support integration of CAD data with simulation, test planning, and technical documentation teams
Key Focus Areas:
3D modeling and drafting for aerospace structures, mechanisms, and tooling
Documentation compliance with aerospace standards and practices
Cross-functional support for engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams
Design updates, revision control, and configuration management
Qualifications & Skills:
Education:
Associate degree in mechanical design, CAD technology, or related field (required)
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or industrial design (preferred)
Experience:
3–6 years of CAD drafting/modeling experience in aerospace or other precision-engineering sectors
Experience with drawings and assemblies for machined parts, sheet metal, composites, or mechanical enclosures
Familiarity with product development processes, manufacturing workflows, and design release cycles
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in CAD software such as CATIA, NX, Creo, or SolidWorks
Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerancing, and aerospace manufacturing processes
Skilled in working with PLM/PDM systems for drawing control and release
Ability to generate clear, comprehensive drawing packages including BOMs and exploded views
Soft Skills:
Detail-oriented with a strong sense of ownership and accountability
Capable of balancing multiple projects and communicating effectively with engineers and fabricators
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to design iteration and feedback
Team player with a proactive approach to process improvement and documentation quality
