The Junior CAD Technician supports the design and engineering teams by creating, revising, and maintaining detailed 2D drawings and 3D models of aerospace components, assemblies, and tooling. Under close supervision, the technician follows engineering standards to translate design concepts into manufacturing-ready CAD documentation using industry-standard software.
Key Responsibilities:
Create and update 2D drawings and 3D models for aerospace parts, assemblies, and tooling
Translate engineering sketches and concepts into detailed CAD documents under the direction of engineers or senior designers
Apply basic GD&T and aerospace drafting standards (e.g., ASME Y14.5) to ensure accurate communication of design intent
Organize and maintain CAD file systems, part libraries, and drawing revision histories
Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to incorporate design changes and release packages
Assist in generating bills of materials (BOMs) and engineering change notices (ECNs)
Perform drawing checks and simple tolerance stack-ups under guidance
Follow documentation control processes and ensure compliance with aerospace standards
Key Focus Areas:
CAD modeling and drafting of aerospace mechanical components
Drawing annotation, BOM updates, and file management
Adherence to drafting standards and configuration control
Collaboration with engineering and manufacturing teams
Qualifications & Skills:
Education:
Associate degree or technical diploma in CAD, mechanical design, drafting, or a related field (required)
Ongoing or completed certification in a CAD platform (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo) is a plus
Experience:
0–2 years of CAD drafting experience (internships or school projects in aerospace/mechanical design preferred)
Exposure to aerospace or high-precision engineering environments is helpful
Technical Skills:
Proficient in at least one CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, Creo, or Inventor)
Understanding of basic dimensioning, tolerancing, and part modeling techniques
Familiarity with drawing packages, revision control, and BOM creation
Basic knowledge of GD&T and mechanical design principles
Soft Skills:
High attention to detail and willingness to learn industry standards
Good organizational skills and ability to manage files and revisions carefully
Clear communication and teamwork abilities in a technical environment
Receptive to feedback and coaching from senior designers and engineers
