The Mid-Level Building Automation Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operation, maintenance, and optimization of Building Automation Systems (BAS) that control HVAC, lighting, and energy systems. This role includes supervising a team of technicians, ensuring proper system performance, and coordinating with stakeholders to support facility comfort, energy efficiency, and sustainability goals. The supervisor also leads system troubleshooting, manages BAS upgrades, and ensures compliance with applicable codes and standards.
Oversee the day-to-day operations and performance of BAS systems, including HVAC controls, environmental monitoring, and energy management platforms.
Supervise BAS technicians and provide technical guidance, task assignments, and performance feedback.
Perform advanced diagnostics and troubleshooting of control systems, sequences, and field devices (sensors, actuators, controllers, etc.).
Manage preventive and corrective maintenance schedules for control system hardware and software.
Collaborate with HVAC, mechanical, and electrical teams to coordinate maintenance and retrofitting projects.
Configure, calibrate, and tune control loops and sequences of operations for optimal system performance.
Review trend data and alarms to identify inefficiencies or operational issues.
Coordinate BAS integration with fire/life safety, lighting, access control, and energy systems where applicable.
Document system configurations, updates, maintenance logs, and troubleshooting records.
Ensure compliance with local building codes, ASHRAE standards, cybersecurity practices, and internal SOPs.
Assist in budgeting and procurement of BAS components, upgrades, and software licenses.
System Performance Optimization
Ensure BAS is operating at peak efficiency to meet comfort, reliability, and energy goals.
Technical Supervision & Team Coordination
Lead a team of technicians and oversee project tasks, work quality, and training.
Troubleshooting & Diagnostics
Lead advanced fault finding, system testing, and root cause analysis of HVAC control issues.
Preventive Maintenance & Upgrades
Oversee system maintenance and identify opportunities for control system upgrades and retrofits.
Energy Management & Data Analysis
Utilize trend data and analytics tools to support energy-saving strategies and operational improvements.
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Automation, Electrical Engineering, HVAC Technology, or related field.
3–7 years of experience working with building automation and HVAC control systems.
Proficient with at least one major BAS platform (e.g., Honeywell, Siemens, Johnson Controls, Trane, Schneider).
Strong understanding of HVAC systems, sequences of operation, and control strategies.
Experience supervising teams, coordinating projects, and performing control system commissioning.
Knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, or similar communication protocols.
Familiarity with energy conservation measures and sustainability practices.
Effective problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
