The Junior Building Automation Supervisor (HVAC Controls) is responsible for supporting the supervision and operation of Building Automation Systems (BAS) that control HVAC, lighting, and energy management systems. This role assists in the coordination of system maintenance, daily operations, and troubleshooting activities, while learning to manage building control systems for optimal performance and comfort. The position also helps ensure building systems comply with safety, energy efficiency, and sustainability standards.
Assist in the operation and monitoring of Building Automation Systems (BAS) to ensure optimal HVAC system performance.
Respond to service calls and alarms related to HVAC control issues; assist in troubleshooting and corrective action.
Support maintenance activities for control system components (e.g., sensors, actuators, controllers, and network devices).
Collaborate with HVAC technicians and electricians to coordinate maintenance schedules and system upgrades.
Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations, updates, and issue resolutions.
Help gather and analyze BAS performance data to identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements.
Support installation, programming, and commissioning of new HVAC control devices under guidance.
Ensure compliance with ASHRAE standards, local codes, and internal energy management policies.
Assist in training facility operations personnel on BAS interfaces and procedures.
Learn and adhere to cybersecurity and network integrity practices for BAS platforms.
BAS Operation & Monitoring
Ensure effective day-to-day operation of building automation and HVAC control systems.
Preventive Maintenance Support
Assist in maintaining control devices and scheduling system inspections.
Troubleshooting & Diagnostics
Respond to and resolve basic system issues under supervision.
Energy Efficiency & System Optimization
Support data collection and analysis efforts to improve system performance and energy savings.
Technical Learning & Development
Gain hands-on experience in BAS programming, diagnostics, and network integration.
Associate’s degree or technical certification in HVAC, Building Automation, Electrical Systems, or related field.
1–2 years of experience in facilities maintenance, HVAC systems, or controls (internship or fieldwork acceptable).
Familiarity with one or more BAS platforms (e.g., Honeywell, Siemens, Johnson Controls, Trane).
Basic knowledge of HVAC system operation, mechanical components, and electrical controls.
Good communication, documentation, and teamwork skills.
Willingness to learn building codes, ASHRAE standards, and networked control system architecture.
Strong interest in building automation technologies, energy efficiency, and facility systems integration.
