Boilermaker (for fabrication of pressure parts)

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

The Senior Boilermaker is responsible for leading and executing the fabrication of high-integrity pressure parts such as pressure vessels, heat exchangers, boilers, and high-pressure piping spools. The role demands deep knowledge of fabrication codes (ASME Section VIII, IX), proficiency in interpreting complex drawings, mentoring junior team members, and ensuring safe and quality-driven fabrication practices in a workshop or site-based environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret and apply detailed fabrication drawings, welding symbols, and geometric tolerances accurately.

  • Perform advanced fit-up of pressure parts, including shell sections, nozzles, manways, tube sheets, stiffeners, and internal components.

  • Supervise and guide junior boilermakers and fitters to ensure precise and code-compliant fabrication.

  • Ensure dimensional accuracy and joint preparation are within acceptable tolerances and in line with WPS/PQR.

  • Conduct or assist in in-process checks, hydrotest preparation, and rectification of fabrication defects.

  • Coordinate with welding, NDT, QA/QC, and planning teams to meet production schedules and quality standards.

  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of fabrication sequences and workshop processes including rolling, beveling, and rigging.

  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, lifting plans, and PPE use during all fabrication activities.

  • Maintain documentation such as fit-up logs, punch points, and material traceability records.

  • Report progress, deviations, and resource needs to supervisors or project engineers.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Advanced Pressure Part Fabrication: Leadership in constructing complex vessels, boilers, and headers for high-pressure applications.

  • Code Knowledge: In-depth understanding of ASME Section VIII, IX, and optionally API 650/653/660 or B31.3.

  • Drawing Mastery: Capable of handling highly detailed fabrication and isometric drawings independently.

  • Precision Fit-Up: Critical fit-up with tight tolerances to ensure weld quality and structural integrity.

  • Mentorship: Provide on-the-job training, feedback, and task assignment to junior boilermakers and helpers.

  • Quality & Safety: Work closely with QA/QC for inspections and with HSE teams to ensure safety compliance.

  • Material Expertise: Knowledge of fabrication involving carbon steel, stainless steel, chrome-moly, and exotic alloys.

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • ITI / Trade Certification in Boilermaking, Mechanical Fitting, or Fabrication (mandatory)

    • Diploma in Mechanical or Fabrication Engineering (preferred)

  • Certifications (Preferred):

    • Strong understanding of ASME Section VIII, IX and API codes relevant to pressure parts

    • Familiarity with NDT requirements (VT, PT, MT) and hydrotest preparation

  • Experience:

    • 8–15 years in fabrication of pressure parts in ASME-certified fabrication shops, EPC environments, or heavy industries

    • Demonstrated leadership in executing large-scale pressure equipment fabrication projects

  • Skills:

    • Excellent technical and mechanical skills

    • Strong leadership and communication abilities

    • Proficiency in using precision measurement tools and fabrication equipment

    • Capability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and drive team productivity
