The Senior Boiler Welding Engineer is responsible for the technical leadership and strategic oversight of all welding-related activities in boiler design, manufacturing, erection, and repair. This includes the development of welding procedures (WPS/PQR), compliance with ASME Section I, Section IX, and NBIC codes, welding quality assurance, and project execution support. The role requires managing welding teams, interfacing with code authorities and clients, and ensuring the highest standards of safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance in pressure part welding.
Lead the development, approval, and continuous improvement of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) for all boiler welding applications.
Supervise welder performance qualification (WPQ), maintain welder continuity records, and manage skill enhancement initiatives.
Provide expert guidance in complex weld joint designs, difficult materials (e.g., chrome-moly alloys, stainless steels), and critical applications (e.g., superheater headers, thick-wall drums).
Ensure strict compliance with ASME Section I, IX, NBIC, IBR, and client-specific codes and standards.
Serve as the technical authority during audits, third-party inspections, client reviews, and code authority engagements.
Investigate weld failures, conduct root cause analysis (RCA), and lead corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Define NDT scope and acceptance criteria, and coordinate with QA/QC teams for inspection planning and execution.
Oversee PWHT (Post Weld Heat Treatment) procedures and monitor thermal cycles and stress relief effectiveness.
Lead weld mapping, data documentation, repair procedures, and NCR closures for pressure part welds.
Develop and implement welding quality programs, productivity benchmarks, and process control systems.
Mentor junior and mid-level welding engineers, QA/QC inspectors, and production welders.
Advanced Welding Engineering & Metallurgy
Apply deep understanding of welding behavior in critical pressure components and specialty alloys.
Code Authority & Compliance
Ensure all welding work meets ASME, NBIC, IBR, and other applicable standards without deviation.
Welding Process Control & Quality
Lead audits, resolve defects, and improve weld quality through technical and operational excellence.
Strategic Planning & Execution Support
Align welding engineering goals with project schedules, risk management plans, and cost objectives.
Mentorship & Leadership
Build technical capacity within the welding and QA/QC team and lead knowledge transfer initiatives.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Welding, or Metallurgical Engineering.
10–20 years of experience in welding engineering with a minimum of 5 years focused on boiler systems, pressure vessels, or power plant components.
Deep knowledge of ASME Section I, Section IX, Section VIII, NBIC, IBR, and regional regulatory standards.
Proven expertise with welding processes including SMAW, GTAW, SAW, FCAW, orbital welding, and automated welding systems.
Strong background in weld failure analysis, metallurgy, heat treatment, and high-temperature service conditions.
Familiarity with digital welding documentation systems, weld tracking, and quality assurance tools.
Excellent communication and documentation skills for interfacing with clients, auditors, and cross-functional teams.
AWS Certified Welding Engineer (CWEng) or Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
NDT Level II or III certification in relevant techniques (RT, UT, PT, MT)
Certification or experience with PED, ISO 3834, EN 12952, or other international standards
Boiler Operation Engineer (BOE) license or plant-based certifications (desirable for O&M interface)
