The Junior Boiler Tube Welder assists in the welding and repair of boiler tubes and associated pressure parts under the guidance of certified senior welders. This role is ideal for recently trained welders with limited field experience who are developing their skills in thermal power plants, refineries, or other industrial facilities requiring ASME code-compliant tube welding.
Assist in performing welding tasks on boiler tubes, waterwalls, economizers, and superheaters.
Carry out basic weld prep: grinding, beveling, fitting, and alignment of tube ends.
Support execution of SMAW, GTAW, or GMAW welds under supervision and direction of a certified welder.
Clean weld joints and surrounding areas before and after welding.
Follow all welding procedures as per ASME Section I / Section IX or project welding procedure specifications (WPS).
Assist during tube cutting, fit-up, and clamping work.
Maintain tools, welding leads, torches, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Participate in pre- and post-weld NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) assistance tasks like surface prep and marking.
Ensure adherence to safety regulations, especially hot work, confined space entry, and high-temperature environments.
Report defective welds, joint misalignments, or equipment malfunctions to senior welders or supervisors.
Skill Development in Boiler Tube Welding
Learn tube welding techniques (root pass, fill, cap) on small-diameter, high-pressure tubes.
Code Compliance Awareness
Gain understanding of ASME and NBIC requirements for boiler welding applications.
Safety in High-Risk Environments
Understand safety procedures for hot work inside boilers and during shutdowns or outages.
Tool & Material Handling
Support staging and safe use of welding consumables, alignment tools, and gas cylinders.
Team Collaboration & Support Tasks
Work effectively with fitters, riggers, and NDT technicians during tube replacement or repair jobs.
ITI / Trade Certificate in Welding / Fabrication / Mechanical Fitter
0–2 years of experience in industrial welding (boilers, pipelines, pressure vessels preferred)
Familiarity with welding processes: SMAW (Stick), GTAW (TIG) – basic skill level
Willingness to work in confined spaces, at heights, and during boiler shutdowns
Basic knowledge of welding equipment, grinding tools, and safety protocols
Ability to interpret simple fabrication drawings and fit-up instructions
Manual dexterity, focus, and patience in controlled weld environments
Strong desire to build a career in boiler welding / pressure part fabrication
Good work ethic, reliability, and physical stamina
