The Mid-Level Boiler Technician is responsible for the operation, inspection, and maintenance of boiler systems supporting water treatment processes. This role involves ensuring reliable steam and heating supply, maintaining water quality within the boiler system, and supporting preventive and corrective maintenance work. The technician works both independently and under supervision, with growing autonomy in troubleshooting and system performance optimization.
Operate and monitor steam boilers, feedwater pumps, condensate return systems, and pressure control devices.
Conduct routine inspections and checks to ensure all boiler components are functioning efficiently and safely.
Perform water chemistry tests and administer chemical treatment to maintain proper water balance in the boiler system.
Execute preventive maintenance including cleaning boiler tubes, replacing gaskets, lubricating pump bearings, and inspecting safety valves.
Troubleshoot minor faults in boiler equipment, including burner systems, fuel supply lines, and control instrumentation.
Log and report pressure, temperature, fuel usage, and water levels in accordance with operational protocols.
Collaborate with maintenance teams for scheduled shutdowns, overhauls, or system upgrades.
Follow all safety protocols including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and emergency response procedures.
Assist with training and mentoring junior boiler staff and apprentices.
Support plant compliance with environmental and operational regulations, including ASME and local/state boiler codes.
Operational Efficiency
Maintain optimal boiler performance and ensure continuous steam supply to water treatment systems.
System Troubleshooting
Identify and resolve common mechanical and chemical issues affecting boiler operation.
Water Chemistry & Treatment
Manage water quality testing and chemical dosing to prevent scaling, corrosion, and inefficiency.
Maintenance Execution
Lead mid-level maintenance activities and support complex repairs alongside senior technicians.
Safety and Compliance
Maintain adherence to regulatory codes and internal SOPs for boiler safety and emissions.
Technical diploma or associate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or Power Engineering.
2–5 years of experience operating and maintaining industrial boiler systems.
Working knowledge of steam plant systems, mechanical equipment, and water treatment fundamentals.
Experience with mechanical troubleshooting tools and techniques.
Basic understanding of control systems (e.g., BMS/PLC preferred but not required).
Familiarity with ASME boiler codes, NBIC, and local/state licensing regulations.
Strong attention to safety, organization, and documentation.
Physically fit and capable of working in high-temperature and confined environments.
Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, and respond to plant emergencies when necessary.
