The Junior Boiler Technician is responsible for assisting in the daily operation, inspection, and maintenance of boiler systems within a water treatment plant. The role supports reliable steam and hot water supply to critical treatment processes, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards. This position is ideal for early-career technicians or recent technical program graduates.
Assist in the operation of low- and high-pressure boiler systems, including start-up and shutdown procedures under supervision.
Support boiler water treatment through basic chemical testing and proper chemical handling.
Perform routine checks on boiler pressure, temperature, feedwater levels, and safety devices.
Conduct visual inspections of burners, fuel lines, pumps, and valves for wear or potential issues.
Assist in preventive maintenance tasks, including cleaning boiler tubes, replacing gaskets, lubricating pumps, and tightening connections.
Log operational readings, incidents, and maintenance activities accurately.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the boiler room and mechanical areas.
Adhere to all safety practices, including use of PPE, Lockout/Tagout procedures, and emergency protocols.
Report irregularities or malfunctions immediately to senior staff or supervisor.
Participate in ongoing technical training and certification programs.
Operational Support
Provide hands-on assistance in routine boiler operations and system monitoring.
Preventive Maintenance
Learn and support basic mechanical tasks to help extend equipment life and minimize downtime.
Water Chemistry Awareness
Gain foundational knowledge in boiler water treatment and its impact on equipment performance.
Compliance & Safety
Understand and follow regulatory requirements for safe boiler operation and environmental compliance.
High school diploma or GED required.
Certificate or diploma in Mechanical Technology, Power Engineering, or Industrial Maintenance preferred.
0–2 years of experience in a utility, boiler room, or industrial plant setting.
Basic understanding of mechanical systems, steam generation, and safety protocols.
Willingness to learn boiler operation, maintenance practices, and water treatment techniques.
Ability to follow instructions, work in physically demanding environments, and adhere to strict safety standards.
Availability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and respond to operational emergencies as required.
