The Senior Boiler Safety Supervisor is responsible for the strategic oversight, enforcement, and continuous improvement of safety and compliance programs related to boiler and pressure vessel systems. This role ensures that all operations align with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) Sections I and VIII, National Board Inspection Code (NBIC), and local/state regulations. The supervisor leads audits, directs training programs, advises on critical boiler-related projects, and serves as the organization’s subject matter expert on pressure system safety and code compliance.
Lead and manage comprehensive safety inspections for high-pressure boilers, pressure vessels, and auxiliary steam systems.
Ensure organizational compliance with ASME BPVC, NBIC, and jurisdictional requirements related to design, operation, inspection, repair, and certification of boiler systems.
Oversee the planning and execution of internal and third-party audits, ensuring the readiness of all documentation and plant operations.
Direct the response and investigation of boiler safety incidents; perform root cause analyses and implement preventive measures.
Approve and validate maintenance and repair procedures involving pressure boundaries, welding, and material substitutions.
Collaborate with engineers on new boiler installations, retrofits, or design modifications to ensure code compliance and operational safety.
Develop and lead organization-wide boiler safety training programs and competency assessments for operators, technicians, and maintenance teams.
Maintain and audit critical records: inspection reports, non-destructive testing (NDT) results, pressure relief device certifications, and compliance logs.
Serve as liaison with regulatory agencies, insurance inspectors, and authorized inspection agencies (AIAs).
Mentor junior safety engineers and support their professional development and certification goals (e.g., NBIC “R” stamp compliance roles).
Regulatory Compliance and Code Enforcement
Ensure strict adherence to ASME Section I & VIII, NBIC Parts 1–3, and all jurisdictional boiler laws.
System Integrity and Risk Reduction
Oversee pressure system risk assessments and proactive maintenance programs that protect plant reliability and personnel safety.
Incident Investigation and Resolution
Lead complex investigations and ensure corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) are documented, communicated, and completed.
Safety Culture and Education
Cultivate a proactive safety culture through ongoing education, procedural updates, and hands-on guidance across departments.
Engineering Collaboration and Project Support
Support capital projects and major turnarounds by validating the design and implementation of boiler and pressure systems.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
8+ years of experience in boiler safety, pressure vessel inspection, or mechanical compliance within utilities or industrial facilities.
Deep expertise in ASME BPVC Sections I and VIII, NBIC, and local boiler codes.
Certification as a National Board Commissioned Inspector (AI) or Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is strongly preferred.
Proven ability to manage cross-functional teams and lead high-stakes safety investigations.
Advanced knowledge of NDT methods (UT, RT, PT), pressure relief devices, and pressure part welding procedures.
Excellent leadership, documentation, training, and communication skills.
