The Mid-Level Boiler Safety Supervisor is responsible for managing and enforcing compliance with boiler safety standards, including the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (Section I & VIII) and NBIC (National Board Inspection Code), within plant operations. This role plays a key part in inspecting, evaluating, and enhancing the safety of high-pressure boiler systems and ensuring that all installations, modifications, and maintenance activities meet regulatory and safety requirements.
Supervise and conduct routine and scheduled safety inspections of boilers, pressure vessels, and related systems.
Enforce strict adherence to ASME and NBIC standards for boiler operation, repairs, alterations, and installation.
Monitor operational practices and intervene when procedures deviate from safe standards.
Lead safety audits, assist with third-party inspections, and maintain compliance documentation.
Investigate boiler safety incidents and near misses; coordinate root cause analyses and implement corrective actions.
Provide technical guidance to operators, engineers, and maintenance teams on proper safety practices and code compliance.
Oversee boiler safety training programs and ensure that all plant personnel are aware of hazards and safe practices.
Review and approve work permits and job safety analyses for maintenance work on pressure systems.
Collaborate with engineering teams on system modifications, upgrades, or new boiler installations for compliance validation.
Maintain records for inspections, testing, certifications, and repair logs per regulatory and internal policy requirements.
Code Compliance & Risk Mitigation
Ensure compliance with ASME Section I & VIII, NBIC, and local jurisdictional regulations, and mitigate operational safety risks.
Inspection and Incident Response
Conduct detailed inspections and lead investigations into abnormal operations or failures involving steam/boiler systems.
Safety System Documentation & Reporting
Maintain thorough documentation for compliance, safety assessments, permits, inspection reports, and regulatory submissions.
Training & Safety Culture
Mentor junior staff and provide ongoing education on safe practices, hazard awareness, and regulatory updates.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration
Work closely with design engineers, maintenance planners, and regulatory bodies to ensure system integrity and legal compliance.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
3–7 years of experience in boiler safety supervision, code compliance, or related field.
Working knowledge of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) Sections I and VIII, and NBIC inspection and repair procedures.
Certification or training in boiler inspection or pressure vessel safety (e.g., National Board Authorized Inspector training) is a strong plus.
Familiarity with high-pressure steam systems, safety valve testing, non-destructive testing (NDT), and failure modes.
Strong communication, technical writing, and safety leadership skills.
