The Junior Boiler Plant Supervisor is responsible for assisting in the supervision and operation of the boiler and auxiliary equipment used to supply steam, hot water, and other thermal energy needs for facility operations. This entry-level supervisory role supports plant efficiency, safety, and regulatory compliance while providing guidance to boiler operators and technicians on daily operations, maintenance tasks, and shift activities.
Monitor and support daily operations of high- and low-pressure boilers, feedwater systems, pumps, valves, and associated controls.
Assist in adjusting combustion systems, fuel feeds, water levels, and pressure to meet steam or heating demand.
Supervise startup, shutdown, and routine checks of plant systems during assigned shifts.
Assist in scheduling and coordinating preventive and corrective maintenance of boiler systems and related equipment.
Monitor and report operational irregularities, equipment malfunctions, and required repairs to senior staff.
Ensure that operators follow proper maintenance and safety protocols.
Ensure adherence to safety procedures and codes such as OSHA, NFPA, and local/state boiler codes.
Conduct regular safety checks and enforce lockout/tagout procedures during maintenance work.
Assist with inspections and documentation required by regulatory agencies.
Provide guidance and leadership to boiler operators and maintenance staff during assigned shifts.
Train new employees on equipment operation, safety procedures, and standard work practices.
Maintain shift logs and operational records and escalate issues to the senior supervisor as needed.
Monitor fuel usage, water treatment processes, and system parameters to optimize efficiency.
Assist in analyzing boiler performance data and recommend improvements to increase plant reliability.
High- and low-pressure steam boiler systems
Feedwater pumps, deaerators, softeners, and blowdown systems
Combustion and burner management systems
Steam distribution and condensate return
Basic water chemistry and boiler water treatment
Safety codes: OSHA, NFPA, ASME Section I and IV, local regulations
High school diploma or equivalent (Technical/Vocational training in boiler operations or HVAC preferred)
Minimum 2–4 years of experience in boiler plant operations or mechanical systems
Valid Boiler Operator License (as required by local/state regulations)
Basic knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical controls, and water treatment processes
Strong communication, teamwork, and basic leadership skills
Proficiency with logkeeping and basic computer systems (CMMS, Microsoft Office)
Certified Boiler Operator (ASME or equivalent)
OSHA 10 or 30-Hour Safety Certification
Basic First Aid/CPR Certification
