The Mid-Level Boiler Mechanic is responsible for performing scheduled and corrective maintenance on boiler feedwater pumps, heat transfer tubes, and burner systems to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous operation of steam generation units. This role requires technical competency in mechanical diagnostics, component repair, and system troubleshooting while adhering to operational and safety standards.
Conduct routine inspection, maintenance, and overhauls of feed pumps, including seal replacements, coupling alignments, and wear part replacements.
Perform tube cleaning (mechanical/chemical), leak detection, and replacement of damaged boiler tubes using welding or rolling methods.
Disassemble, inspect, clean, and reassemble burner assemblies, including checking fuel nozzles, igniters, air registers, and flame scanners.
Troubleshoot mechanical issues related to vibrations, misalignment, and pressure fluctuations in boiler auxiliary systems.
Maintain correct pump alignment using dial indicators or laser alignment tools.
Perform hydrostatic and pneumatic testing of boiler pressure parts in compliance with ASME/NBIC codes.
Document maintenance actions, log repair history, and maintain parts inventory records.
Follow lockout/tagout and confined space protocols during maintenance operations.
Support shutdown and startup activities by executing assigned mechanical procedures safely and efficiently.
Collaborate with controls, instrumentation, and utility operators to ensure coordinated maintenance planning.
Boiler Feed Pump Maintenance
Ensure pump integrity, sealing, and alignment to maintain uninterrupted boiler feedwater flow.
Boiler Tube Inspection & Replacement
Perform inspection and minor re-tubing activities to restore boiler thermal efficiency and reduce failure risk.
Burner Mechanical Service
Optimize mechanical condition of burners for consistent combustion and energy efficiency.
Mechanical Troubleshooting
Identify and resolve mid-level mechanical issues in piping, valves, expansion joints, and ancillary systems.
Safety and Code Compliance
Execute work in alignment with ASME, NBIC, and OSHA standards for boiler maintenance.
Diploma or ITI in Mechanical Engineering, Boiler Maintenance, or related trade.
3–5 years of experience in boiler or industrial mechanical maintenance, preferably in power generation or utility plants.
Working knowledge of steam system components, pressure parts, and burner assemblies.
Familiarity with welding, brazing, and tube rolling tools is a plus.
Proficient in using mechanical alignment tools and standard maintenance instruments.
Strong understanding of industrial safety protocols and maintenance best practices.
Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and OEM manuals.
