The Junior Boiler Codes and Standards Compliance Engineer supports the implementation and adherence to applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements related to boiler and pressure systems. This entry-level role involves assisting in documentation reviews, inspections, compliance tracking, and engineering evaluations under the guidance of senior engineers. The position is ideal for early-career mechanical engineers looking to build specialized expertise in ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC), National Board Inspection Code (NBIC), and related industrial standards.
Assist with reviewing boiler designs, installations, and modifications for compliance with ASME BPVC, NBIC, and jurisdictional regulations.
Support documentation preparation for certification and regulatory submissions.
Participate in internal and external audits related to boiler and pressure vessel systems.
Assist in scheduling and preparing documentation for inspections by regulatory bodies or Authorized Inspectors (AI).
Maintain records of boiler certifications, inspections, test results, and nonconformance reports.
Help ensure documentation is complete, up-to-date, and audit-ready.
Support the review of engineering drawings and pressure part designs for conformance to ASME Section I, IV, or VIII as applicable.
Cross-check design parameters such as pressure, temperature ratings, weld details, and material specifications.
Assist in risk assessments, hazard identification, and review of safety relief valve sizing, pressure setting, and boiler protection systems.
Stay updated with changes in applicable codes and standards; assist in distributing updates to relevant teams.
Attend training sessions and workshops on ASME/NBIC codes and participate in knowledge-sharing activities.
Work with senior compliance engineers to support investigations of noncompliance issues or failures.
Contribute to root cause analysis and propose basic corrective and preventive actions.
Code Familiarization and Application:
Build working knowledge of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code (Section I, IV, V, VIII) and National Board Inspection Code (NBIC).
Inspection Preparation and Documentation:
Assist in preparing technical and regulatory documents for inspection and certification of boiler systems.
Compliance Monitoring:
Track inspection schedules, certificate expirations, and code changes to maintain regulatory compliance.
Boiler System Safety Standards:
Support review of safety device settings, material compliance, and operational procedures related to pressure equipment safety.
Learning and Development:
Engage in continuous professional development to grow into a subject matter expert in boiler codes and compliance engineering.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
0–2 years of experience in engineering (internships or co-op in industrial utilities or compliance preferred).
Basic understanding of pressure systems, piping, boilers, and mechanical safety standards.
Exposure to ASME BPVC and NBIC codes (through coursework or prior work experience) is a plus.
Strong organizational, documentation, and analytical skills.
Proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD or SolidWorks, and technical writing.
