We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Machining Technician to lead operations in the precision grinding and milling of turbine blades and disks. This role requires deep technical expertise in operating and optimizing CNC and manual machining processes to produce high-performance, tight-tolerance components. The ideal candidate will mentor junior technicians, support process improvements, and ensure conformance to aerospace or industrial standards.
Set up, program, and operate CNC and manual grinding/milling machines for the production of turbine blades and disks.
Review and interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T specifications.
Lead process optimization for improved quality, cycle time reduction, and tool life management.
Inspect machined components using precision instruments (CMM, micrometers, indicators, surface finish testers) and ensure full compliance with dimensional tolerances and surface finish standards.
Troubleshoot complex machining issues and implement corrective actions in collaboration with engineering and quality teams.
Document machining parameters, tool paths, and setup sheets for repeatability and knowledge sharing.
Guide junior technicians in best practices for fixturing, tool selection, and machining operations.
Ensure adherence to safety procedures and proactively participate in workplace HSE initiatives.
Support continuous improvement activities, including Lean manufacturing, 5S, and process audits.
Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment between manufacturing, quality, and engineering functions.
High-Precision Machining Leadership
Lead the execution of complex grinding and milling operations with a focus on quality, efficiency, and repeatability.
Advanced CNC Operation & Programming
Optimize machine setup and tool paths using CNC controls (e.g., Siemens, Fanuc, Heidenhain) for 3- to 5-axis equipment.
Technical Problem Solving & Troubleshooting
Analyze machining-related defects and implement permanent corrective actions.
Inspection & Quality Compliance
Perform first-article inspections and ensure conformance to AS9100, ISO 9001, or equivalent standards.
Mentorship & Training
Mentor junior team members, support skill development, and uphold machining standards across shifts.
Technical diploma, associate degree, or vocational training in Precision Machining, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field.
6–10+ years of hands-on experience in high-precision machining of turbine or aerospace components.
Expert knowledge of grinding and milling operations, especially on hard-to-machine materials like Inconel, titanium, or stainless steels.
Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and GD&T.
Solid understanding of CNC machine operation, offsets, tool compensation, and cutting parameters.
Familiar with inspection techniques including CMM programming/use, surface finish measurement, and NDT (if applicable).
Strong communication, documentation, and process control skills.
Experience working in regulated environments (aerospace, defense, energy) and familiarity with industry standards.
Prior experience machining turbine blades, disks, or other rotating components.
Experience with CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Siemens NX, or similar).
Leadership experience or team lead roles in a production machining environment.
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Kaizen practices.
