We are seeking a highly experienced and innovative Senior Automation Engineer to lead the development and deployment of robotic fabrication cells in advanced manufacturing environments. This role demands a deep understanding of robotic automation, systems integration, control architectures, and process optimization. You will play a strategic role in project planning, system design, team mentorship, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver scalable, intelligent automation solutions.
Lead the conceptualization and design of modular and scalable robotic fabrication cells.
Define hardware/software architecture and integration strategies across multi-robot, multi-sensor environments.
Develop complex robot paths and routines using platforms such as KUKA KRL, ABB RAPID, Fanuc TP, or URScript.
Implement adaptive logic, closed-loop control, and real-time feedback using sensor data and custom algorithms.
Architect and implement robust PLC-based control systems (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley) to orchestrate cell operations.
Design and configure intuitive HMIs and interfaces for operator interaction and diagnostics.
Drive process improvements through data analytics, performance benchmarking, and predictive maintenance strategies.
Integrate robotic cells into larger MES/SCADA frameworks and apply Industry 4.0 principles for smart manufacturing.
Serve as a technical lead for automation projects, overseeing design reviews, risk assessments, and implementation timelines.
Mentor junior engineers and technicians, fostering skill development and adherence to best practices.
Ensure all systems comply with international standards (e.g., ISO 10218, ANSI/RIA) for safety and operational integrity.
Maintain comprehensive technical documentation including electrical schematics, code repositories, and functional specifications.
Lead end-to-end automation project life cycles—from concept to commissioning.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical, electrical, software, and operations groups.
Manage vendor relationships and evaluate new technologies for integration into fabrication workflows.
Perform complex diagnostics and system tuning to ensure optimal performance of robotic cells.
Advocate for continuous improvement and innovation across automation infrastructure.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Automation Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
6+ years of experience in robotic automation, with a proven track record of leading industrial automation projects.
Expert-level proficiency with at least one major robot programming language/platform.
Advanced experience with PLC programming, industrial networking, and HMI/SCADA systems.
Strong knowledge of robot kinematics, motion control, and process automation.
Excellent leadership, project management, and communication skills.
Experience in robotic fabrication for construction, aerospace, or digital manufacturing sectors.
Familiarity with offline simulation tools (e.g., RoboDK, RobotStudio, Process Simulate).
Proficiency in CAD/CAM workflows, parametric design tools (e.g., Grasshopper), and G-code generation.
Exposure to cloud-based data platforms, edge computing, or AI-enhanced automation.
