Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly experienced and innovative Senior Automation Engineer to lead the development and deployment of robotic fabrication cells in advanced manufacturing environments. This role demands a deep understanding of robotic automation, systems integration, control architectures, and process optimization. You will play a strategic role in project planning, system design, team mentorship, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver scalable, intelligent automation solutions.

Key Focus Areas:

1. Robotic System Architecture & Design Leadership

    • Lead the conceptualization and design of modular and scalable robotic fabrication cells.

    • Define hardware/software architecture and integration strategies across multi-robot, multi-sensor environments.

2. Advanced Robot Programming & Process Control

    • Develop complex robot paths and routines using platforms such as KUKA KRL, ABB RAPID, Fanuc TP, or URScript.

    • Implement adaptive logic, closed-loop control, and real-time feedback using sensor data and custom algorithms.

3. Controls & PLC/HMI Integration

    • Architect and implement robust PLC-based control systems (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley) to orchestrate cell operations.

    • Design and configure intuitive HMIs and interfaces for operator interaction and diagnostics.

4. System Optimization & Industry 4.0 Integration

    • Drive process improvements through data analytics, performance benchmarking, and predictive maintenance strategies.

    • Integrate robotic cells into larger MES/SCADA frameworks and apply Industry 4.0 principles for smart manufacturing.

5. Technical Leadership & Mentorship

    • Serve as a technical lead for automation projects, overseeing design reviews, risk assessments, and implementation timelines.

    • Mentor junior engineers and technicians, fostering skill development and adherence to best practices.

6. Compliance, Safety & Documentation

    • Ensure all systems comply with international standards (e.g., ISO 10218, ANSI/RIA) for safety and operational integrity.

    • Maintain comprehensive technical documentation including electrical schematics, code repositories, and functional specifications.

Core Responsibilities:

    • Lead end-to-end automation project life cycles—from concept to commissioning.

    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical, electrical, software, and operations groups.

    • Manage vendor relationships and evaluate new technologies for integration into fabrication workflows.

    • Perform complex diagnostics and system tuning to ensure optimal performance of robotic cells.

    • Advocate for continuous improvement and innovation across automation infrastructure.

Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Automation Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.

    • 6+ years of experience in robotic automation, with a proven track record of leading industrial automation projects.

    • Expert-level proficiency with at least one major robot programming language/platform.

    • Advanced experience with PLC programming, industrial networking, and HMI/SCADA systems.

    • Strong knowledge of robot kinematics, motion control, and process automation.

    • Excellent leadership, project management, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in robotic fabrication for construction, aerospace, or digital manufacturing sectors.

  • Familiarity with offline simulation tools (e.g., RoboDK, RobotStudio, Process Simulate).

  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM workflows, parametric design tools (e.g., Grasshopper), and G-code generation.

  • Exposure to cloud-based data platforms, edge computing, or AI-enhanced automation.
