Job Title: Mid-Level Assembly Engineer

Job Summary:

We are looking for a Mid-Level Assembly Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will take on greater responsibility for overseeing the assembly processes, optimizing production systems, and ensuring the quality and efficiency of mechanical assemblies. You will collaborate with senior engineers and cross-functional teams, contributing your expertise in assembly techniques, troubleshooting, and process improvements. Key Responsibilities:

Assembly Process Optimization:

  • Lead the optimization of mechanical assembly processes to increase productivity and reduce costs.
  • Analyze assembly workflows and recommend improvements to minimize errors, enhance efficiency, and maintain high-quality standards.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to the assembly process, including mechanical and operational challenges.

Team Collaboration and Support:

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior assembly engineers and technicians.
  • Collaborate with design engineers, production teams, and quality control personnel to ensure smooth integration of mechanical components.
  • Facilitate communication between engineering, production, and other departments to ensure efficient production processes.

Quality Control and Assurance:

  • Ensure that all assembled components meet or exceed quality standards through inspections and testing.
  • Develop and implement detailed quality control procedures for mechanical assemblies.
  • Lead root cause analysis for assembly defects and initiate corrective actions.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Create and maintain detailed assembly documentation, including work instructions, drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Prepare regular reports on assembly performance, quality metrics, and process improvements for management review.
  • Document issues, solutions, and best practices to continually improve the assembly process.

Prototyping and Testing Support:

  • Lead the development of prototypes and support testing activities to verify and validate new designs and assembly methods.
  • Manage the planning and execution of tests to validate mechanical designs, including structural and functional evaluations.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance assembly methods and reduce lead times.
  • Implement process improvements based on industry trends, feedback from production teams, and lessons learned from previous projects.

Key Focus Areas:

Assembly System Efficiency:

  • Oversee the optimization and refinement of mechanical assembly systems to increase speed, accuracy, and output while reducing waste.
  • Implement lean manufacturing techniques and other process improvement strategies to drive efficiency in the assembly line.

Advanced Quality Control:

  • Take ownership of ensuring all products meet stringent quality standards through robust testing, inspections, and process audits.
  • Use statistical tools and techniques to analyze assembly data and identify areas of improvement in the quality process.

Integration of Mechanical Systems:

  • Oversee the integration of mechanical components into larger systems, ensuring compatibility and performance under real-world conditions.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams from other disciplines (e.g., electrical, software) to ensure systems work together seamlessly.

Process Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving:

  • Troubleshoot complex issues in the assembly process, working with cross-functional teams to resolve problems quickly and efficiently.
  • Develop solutions for recurring assembly challenges and ensure the implementation of corrective actions.

Training and Mentoring:

  • Provide technical leadership to junior engineers and assembly staff by offering guidance, training, and support for developing their skills.
  • Lead training sessions for staff on new assembly techniques, tools, and best practices.

Qualifications and Skills:

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in mechanical assembly engineering, preferably in a manufacturing or production environment.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical assembly techniques and systems.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for reviewing design documents and supporting assembly integration.
  • Understanding of advanced manufacturing processes, including automated assembly systems, lean manufacturing, and process optimization.
  • Experience with quality control methods and tools, such as statistical analysis and failure mode analysis.
  • Knowledge of material properties and how they impact the assembly process.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a hands-on approach to troubleshooting.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work well with cross-functional teams and manage multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to mentor and lead teams, offering technical expertise and guidance.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects with varying deadlines.

Certifications (Optional but Beneficial):

  • Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification.
  • Certification in CAD software (e.g., Certified SolidWorks Professional).
  • Any additional training in process optimization, quality assurance, or manufacturing technologies.
