The Junior Alignment and Balancing Technician – Rotating Equipment is responsible for assisting in the execution of precision alignment and dynamic balancing tasks for rotating machinery. This entry-level position involves hands-on work under the supervision of senior technicians and engineers to support the reliability and efficient operation of pumps, motors, compressors, turbines, and fans. The role is suited for mechanically inclined individuals looking to specialize in reliability maintenance of critical rotating assets.
Alignment Support:
Assist in performing laser and dial indicator-based shaft alignment on rotating equipment.
Support alignment checks during equipment installation, commissioning, and post-maintenance activities.
Balancing Support:
Help conduct field balancing of rotating parts such as fans, impellers, and rotors under supervision.
Prepare and use balancing equipment, record readings, and assist in adjusting correction weights.
Measurement and Data Collection:
Take basic vibration, temperature, and noise measurements to assist in assessing machine condition.
Assist with preparing field reports, inspection checklists, and alignment/balancing logs.
Tool and Equipment Handling:
Prepare tools, fixtures, laser alignment systems, and balancing machines for field and shop work.
Ensure proper calibration and handling of precision maintenance equipment.
Worksite Assistance:
Follow safety procedures during field jobs, including isolation, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and confined space entry.
Assist in dismantling and reassembling rotating equipment for alignment and balancing tasks.
Learning and Development:
Actively participate in training programs and mentoring under senior technicians.
Learn alignment tolerances, balancing standards (ISO, API), and vibration interpretation fundamentals.
Precision Alignment Basics:
Support laser and dial-based shaft alignment of pumps, motors, compressors, and fans.
Dynamic Balancing Assistance:
Assist in field or workshop-based rotor balancing to reduce vibration and improve equipment life.
Data Collection & Reporting:
Record alignment/balancing data and machine condition measurements with accuracy.
Tool Preparation & Equipment Handling:
Safely handle alignment tools, portable balancing equipment, and measurement instruments.
Safety & Procedure Compliance:
Follow all mechanical safety protocols, including PPE use, LOTO, and safe lifting practices.
Technical Skill Development:
Build foundational expertise in rotating equipment reliability through training and mentorship.
Diploma or ITI in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or equivalent.
1–2 years of experience in mechanical maintenance or entry-level reliability support roles.
Familiarity with rotating machinery components and basic understanding of alignment/balancing principles.
Willingness to work in field-based industrial environments and assist in hands-on technical work.
Basic computer skills for reporting and data entry; willingness to learn CMMS systems.
Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a proactive attitude toward learning.
