Air Handling Unit Supervisor

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Air Handling Unit (AHU) Supervisor to assist in the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of Air Handling Units used in commercial, industrial, cleanroom, or pharmaceutical environments. This role is focused on ensuring proper environmental conditions—temperature, humidity, pressure, and particulate control—through the efficient functioning of AHUs.

The ideal candidate will support senior staff in ensuring that all AHUs operate in compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs), maintenance schedules, and GMP/cleanroom protocols where applicable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the day-to-day operation and inspection of AHUs, including filters, dampers, fans, humidifiers, and coils.

  • Perform and record routine checks on temperature, humidity, airflow, and differential pressure across clean zones.

  • Ensure adherence to preventive maintenance schedules and SOPs for AHU components (pre-filters, HEPA filters, motors, VFDs).

  • Support filter replacement, coil cleaning, and monitoring of fan performance, vibrations, and energy usage.

  • Maintain logbooks, maintenance records, and operational data for audit and GMP compliance.

  • Assist in HVAC validation support activities such as airflow visualization, particle monitoring, and air balancing under supervision.

  • Coordinate with the BMS (Building Management System) or BAS (Building Automation System) team to monitor and adjust control parameters.

  • Follow all relevant safety, environmental, and quality standards, including GMP, ISO 14644, and OSHA protocols.

  • Report abnormalities and support root cause investigations related to airflow, contamination control, or system alarms.

  • Participate in training programs to understand cleanroom classifications, HVAC fundamentals, and maintenance best practices.

Key Focus Areas:

  1. AHU Monitoring & Reporting

    • Track and report operating parameters to maintain stable and compliant environmental conditions.

  2. Cleanroom Support & GMP Compliance

    • Assist in maintaining cleanliness and pressure requirements in classified zones (ISO 5–8) where applicable.

  3. Preventive Maintenance

    • Follow daily, weekly, and monthly schedules for filter inspections, fan checks, and coil cleaning.

  4. Technical Documentation

    • Maintain accurate records of maintenance tasks, observations, deviations, and corrective actions.

  5. Learning & Development

    • Build technical knowledge and hands-on experience in AHU operations to grow into a senior supervisory or technical role.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC Technology, or a related field.

  • 0–2 years of experience in HVAC, facilities maintenance, or cleanroom operations (internships or on-the-job training acceptable).

  • Basic understanding of HVAC components, airflow, and cleanroom standards.

  • Familiarity with GMP environments, ISO 14644 standards, or pharmaceutical HVAC systems is a plus.

  • Ability to read technical drawings and operating manuals.

  • Good communication, recordkeeping, and time management skills.

  • Willingness to work in shifts or in cleanroom-suited PPE as needed.
