Marine HVAC/Valve Integration Specialist – Mechanical Systems

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

The Senior Marine HVAC/Valve Integration Specialist leads the end-to-end integration of HVAC systems and mechanical valve components across complex shipboard or offshore platforms. This role involves technical oversight of mechanical layout, system interface planning, supervision of installation teams, and coordination of testing and commissioning activities. The specialist ensures compliance with ABS, USCG, and other marine regulatory standards while optimizing system performance and integration efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

    • Lead planning, execution, and verification of HVAC system integration, including chillers, air handlers, ducting, and marine-grade ventilation components.

    • Manage valve integration in mechanical piping systems, including installation, alignment, and function testing of control, isolation, and safety valves.

    • Review and interpret complex engineering drawings, P&IDs, HVAC schematics, and 3D models to develop installation strategies and sequencing plans.

    • Oversee mechanical interface coordination between HVAC units, valves, piping systems, structural supports, and electrical interfaces.

    • Serve as technical liaison between engineering, construction, commissioning, and classification society representatives.

    • Ensure installation practices align with ABS, USCG, IMO, and SOLAS requirements, as well as company and shipyard mechanical standards.

    • Lead mechanical testing and verification activities such as hydrostatic, leak, airflow, and functional performance tests.

    • Prepare and approve as-built documentation, system turnover packages, and commissioning readiness checklists.

    • Train and mentor junior integration specialists and support continuous improvement in mechanical integration processes.

    • Troubleshoot mechanical system integration issues during construction, testing, or commissioning phases.

Key Focus Areas:

    • System Integration Leadership: Drive cross-disciplinary integration of HVAC and valve systems for marine environments.

    • Regulatory Compliance Oversight: Ensure all systems meet ABS, USCG, and applicable class and safety standards.

    • Commissioning Readiness: Lead system walkdowns, testing protocols, and turnover documentation for HVAC and valve systems.

    • Design/Field Coordination: Bridge the gap between design engineering and field execution with a focus on mechanical system fit-up.

Qualifications & Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline (associate degree with additional experience considered).

    • 8–12+ years of experience in marine mechanical integration, HVAC systems, and valve installations on vessels or offshore structures.

    • Proven experience coordinating HVAC and valve systems across multi-zone or multi-deck platforms.

    • Deep understanding of marine regulatory codes: ABS, USCG, ASME B31.1/B31.3, API, SOLAS, IMO, and ISO standards.

    • Strong leadership and communication skills to interface with engineers, trades, and regulatory authorities.

    • Hands-on experience with field verification, pressure testing, and commissioning support activities.

Preferred Certifications & Skills:

    • PMP, CMRT, or equivalent project/integration management certification

    • OSHA Maritime Safety (30-hour), HAZMAT awareness, or confined space certification

    • Familiarity with CAD, Navisworks, or shipboard 3D modeling tools

    • Skilled in mechanical documentation control systems and field change management

    • Experience with integrated shipboard HVAC automation and valve actuation systems is a plus
