Engine Test Technician – Turbine Performance Validation

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced and technically proficient Senior Engine Test Technician to lead and support turbine engine performance validation activities. In this role, you will be responsible for executing complex engine tests, troubleshooting system-level issues, mentoring junior technicians, and ensuring test cell operations meet safety, quality, and performance standards. Your contributions will directly support engineering validation, R&D, and compliance testing programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the setup, operation, and decommissioning of gas turbine engines in test environments.

  • Oversee the installation, calibration, and validation of test instrumentation (pressure sensors, thermocouples, flow meters, vibration probes).

  • Execute performance and endurance test cycles in alignment with test plans and engineering requirements.

  • Analyze and interpret real-time test data to identify anomalies and ensure test validity.

  • Troubleshoot complex issues involving mechanical systems, control interfaces, and data acquisition equipment.

  • Maintain detailed test logs, support technical reporting, and assist in root cause analysis of test deviations or failures.

  • Ensure test facility readiness, including routine inspection and maintenance of support systems (fuel delivery, cooling, exhaust handling).

  • Enforce health, safety, and environmental (HSE) compliance and actively lead safety assessments and process improvements.

  • Collaborate closely with engineers, program managers, and test operations to meet technical and schedule goals.

  • Mentor and train junior technicians and foster best practices in testing methodology and equipment care.

Key Focus Areas:

  1. Advanced Turbine Engine Testing Execution

    • Independently run complex validation tests, assess results in real-time, and adjust test parameters to meet objectives.

  2. Instrumentation and Data Quality Assurance

    • Ensure precision in sensor installation and data integrity through rigorous calibration and system checks.

  3. Technical Leadership & Troubleshooting

    • Act as the subject matter expert in resolving mechanical, electrical, or system integration issues in test environments.

  4. Test Cell Operations & Facility Oversight

    • Lead facility readiness efforts and implement improvements to increase test efficiency and reliability.

  5. Mentorship & Team Collaboration

    • Support team development by mentoring technicians and fostering a high-performance, safety-first culture.

Qualifications & Skills:

    • Associate degree, technical diploma, or higher in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Electrical Engineering Technology (or equivalent).

    • 5–8+ years of experience in gas turbine or engine test environments, with increasing responsibility.

    • In-depth knowledge of gas turbine systems, thermodynamics, and engine performance metrics.

    • Proficient in test automation systems, DAQ tools (LabVIEW, NI, or OEM-specific platforms), and instrumentation calibration.

    • Strong ability to interpret technical documentation (engineering drawings, wiring schematics, instrumentation plans).

    • Proven track record of diagnosing and resolving complex mechanical or system integration problems under time constraints.

    • Excellent communication, teamwork, and technical documentation skills.

    • Able to work in a flexible shift environment with a strong commitment to quality and safety.

Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience with both development and production testing of aerospace or industrial gas turbines.

    • Familiarity with applicable standards (ASME PTC 22, ISO 2314, MIL-STD-810, FAA/EASA compliance procedures).

    • Certification in HSE practices (LOTO, confined space, working at height, electrical safety).

    • Experience leading small teams or projects within a test operations environment.
