Aerospace Welder – Pressure Vessel and Valve Welding

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking a skilled Mid-Level Aerospace Welder with hands-on experience in TIG welding of pressure vessels and aerospace-grade valves. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in working with aerospace materials and welding to tight tolerances, while adhering to industry standards such as AWS D17.1 and ASME Section IX. This role is responsible for producing high-quality, leak-tight welds that meet both customer and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform TIG (GTAW) welding on pressure-rated aerospace components including vessels, valves, manifolds, and piping systems.

  • Interpret and work from engineering drawings, WPSs, and weld symbols to execute precise welds.

  • Prepare components for welding, including fit-up, clamping, and surface preparation.

  • Conduct in-process and post-weld visual inspection of welds; support NDT inspection (e.g., dye penetrant, X-ray).

  • Maintain compliance with aerospace standards (AWS D17.1, ASME, NADCAP).

  • Document welding operations as required by quality assurance (QA) procedures and traveler documentation.

  • Collaborate with engineers and QA personnel to troubleshoot weld issues and improve processes.

  • Ensure adherence to FOD control, cleanroom protocols, and safety procedures.

  • Train or support junior welders when needed.

Key Focus Areas

  • Precision TIG Welding: Proficient in welding thin-walled and high-pressure components using TIG, with high consistency and minimal rework.

  • Pressure Vessel and Valve Assembly Welding: Experience welding to ASME Section VIII, IX standards, including multi-pass welds and leak testing readiness.

  • Aerospace Standards Compliance: Familiarity with AWS D17.1, AS9100, NADCAP, and internal customer specifications.

  • Material Experience: Competency welding aerospace alloys such as stainless steel, Inconel, titanium, and aluminum.

  • Inspection & Quality Support: Able to identify and address common weld defects; support NDT and QA reviews.

  • Documentation & Traceability: Understands importance of accurate welding logs, heat numbers, and inspection records.

  • Shop Floor Efficiency: Capable of maintaining productivity while ensuring high standards of quality and cleanliness.

Qualifications

  • Technical diploma or trade school certification in welding.

  • 3–6 years of TIG welding experience, preferably in aerospace or high-precision industries.

  • Welder certifications per AWS D17.1, ASME Section IX, or equivalent (preferred).

  • Ability to read and interpret complex weld symbols, blueprints, and manufacturing instructions.

  • Familiarity with cleanroom and aerospace manufacturing environments is a plus.

Soft Skills

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

  • Problem-solving attitude with initiative to improve weld processes.

  • Ability to work independently and maintain consistency under pressure.
